Feel Every Mark and Color

Through gestural lines, whimsical ceramics, and vibrant palettes, I invite you to see familiar landscapes and faces in a new light—where darkness holds beauty, and nature’s quiet details come alive with color.

I offer art that attempts to remember a moment and create something that's completely different. It's a portal for you to experience a memory. SomeHowe a piece of me made for you.

Being Seen

Who You Are To Me

Abstract portraits surrounded and layered with elements and icons. Markers and reminders highlight who they are and who they have been.

This body of art will evolve into a series of wraps and scarves so that you can wrap up in the beauty of these lives and share them with someone you think of in this art, someone who needs to be seen.

From Nature

On The Edge

Understanding the living world requires time, humility, and a form of almost moral respect. It takes time. It takes notice of the overlooked places or singular views. It asks that for the art to feel like a place more than be a place. These artworks are my way of holding onto a place and time loosley...like a dream.

Moments expand into ink, line and color.

Boundaries

Living Lines

I think it's important for me to go out and observe and draw from real life, but I'm not doing that with the intention of translating whatever I've sketched into an abstracted version. I't more about collecting and gathering visual elements that can be stored in my head for the future. And then letting it grow into something unplanned and unexpected.

Living Lines is part of a series that examines place. An abstract way of mapping humanity.

Growth in quiet moments

A Year In Flowers

Who doesn't like a bit of beauty just for beauty's sake?

This artwork is about taking time to slow down and record the beauty in blooms each month. Some are real, others imagined. They live as arrangements and still lives, in twining prairies, and single silhouettes. And the best part is, they don't have to be watered just appreciated.

Perfect for you or another beautiful person in your life.

SomeHowe

About Me

I'm Heidi Howe. Born in a small midwestern town with the freedom to explore marshes, prairies, and farmland. After a career in storytelling through graphic design and creative directing it was finally the time to start doing all of things on my "someday" list. A key on that list was making art. Every artwork is a piece of me offered to you. SomeHowe.

Why SomeHowe?

Well, I suppose it's because it's part of me. Some bit of chance. Some bit of memory and experience. Some bit of storytelling. Some bit of possibility and imagination. Some part of you identifying with it. Some part of recognition that now is the time to share. And as though it was always meant to be, somehow it's art that finds its way into you, into your heart, into your home.

This exploration naturally evolved into SomeHowe studio, almost like magic.

Explorations & Being Brave

After a bout with cancer I was left having to rethink what this new body and mind could do. It's made me slow down and take chances on things I'd been putting off.

I'm finally feeling brave enough to start thinking of ways to share this evolution with you. The artwork about being seen is about this experience. This art is about recognizing the people in our lives who feel like they are disappearing. They may feel this because of illness and treatment stripping away who they are the way I did. Or it may be the result of huge life changes shaking up their identity — new grads, career layoffs, and retirements. For many, it's a result of being a new parent, when they're in the state of sleepless nights, constant demands, and peak judgement. Or it's just the act of aging, where there is a new person looking at them in the mirror and new limitations on what they can do.

This art is about really seeing these people. It's about celebrating who they are to you, who they are inside, memories of what makes them special to you, their stories. I hope to do them justice.

Art & Objects

SomeHowe was born from a love of stories and handmade objects that spark familiarity at first sight. The painting that makes you feel understood, the drawing that makes you smile every time you pass, the scarf that wraps memories and identity around you, the ceramic vessel that feels just right in your hands...Every piece I offer has a story behind it. It's a bit of me made for a part of you...SomeHowe.
